12 Aug #RecolorContest Updates
Upon launch, #RecolorContest generated a lot of show-stoppingly awesome recolors – and no small amount of confusion. As we enter the competition’s home stretch, we wanted to apologize for the lack of clarity surrounding contest rules and explain these rules with greater precision 🙏
✍️ 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓’𝐒 𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐒𝐔𝐁𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍?
1️⃣ All Highrise-created items are eligible for entry: this includes all rarities from Common to Legendary, and also covers items distributed as rewards in past events.
2️⃣ Regarding player-designed items (Design Competition Winners), only the original player may submit a recolor of their own items.
3️⃣ You can submit multiple entries – usually, we limit entries to 3 per player, but left submissions open for this competition. You can submit multiple recolors of a single item as well, however, only one version of your recolor will be selected if you win.
4️⃣ Each entry you submit may feature a single item recolor, or a full grab recolor. We’re planning to mix and match Grabs and rewards featured in the Recolor event; if you submit an outstanding grab recolor, you can expect to see most items from your design featured in the final grab. We planned this to allow for greater freedom in conveying your vision, but we understand that it is a bit too open-ended…!
5️⃣ Recoloring means exchanging the fabric of the item: swapping blue for pink, or a heart pattern for a diamond pattern. Think of simply trading out one fabric or material for another. This isn’t a redesign contest… But more on that at the end of this post 👀
🏆 𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐔𝐁𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐕𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆:
1️⃣ Winners of #RecolorContest will receive “Inspired By” credit for each item they recolor, as decided in our last poll. Since player-creators already have credit attached to their in-game items, they would retain that credit for their recolors upon winning this contest. At present, we don’t have the ability to change the credit text to “Recolored By,” but we would love to add this in a future update!
2️⃣ While most of our contests have an eligibility cooldown period for winners to give new folks an opportunity to rise to the top, this contest is open to everyone. All winners of recent contests are welcome to enter this competition!
3️⃣ Winners of the #RecolorContest will be chosen from among the top-voted entries by Highrise staff. Right now, we’re working on building a better solution to our current vote system, since it’s frustrating to see spam accounts artificially boosting an entry’s popularity. In the meantime, however, we will do our best to check for this kind of artificial inflation, and we invite you to let us know if you spot anything fishy.
4️⃣ Winning items will retain their original rarity – so if you recolor a Legendary, your recolor will also be a Legendary item. Bearing in mind that all items from this contest will be released as event Grabs or Rewards, most winning items will be Rare – so keep this in mind while designing!
🔖 𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐃 – 𝐑𝐄𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐒
#RecolorContest was intended to feature simple reskins of your favorite Highrise items, but we quickly saw incredible potential for an entirely new contest: a 𝘙𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. We were floored to see dozens of brilliant redesigns of existing items pouring in from our community artists. While these items aren’t considered recolors and are therefore ineligible for claiming a winning slot in the #RecolorContest, please save your art for a future competition!
We’re not sure of the details for a Redesign Competition just yet, but let us know how you’d like to see it pan out in the comments on the Newsfeed post!
Thanks for reading, and for bearing with us as we roll out new types of competitions! We’ll be in touch 😌
